Principal Message 15th July 2022
Welcome back to all our Columba families, I hope you have all had a restful break and feel rejuvenated, relaxed and recharged. Term 2 was again a very different term, as we navigated our way through a whole term without any long-term closures or shutdowns. I would like to thank all our families for the patience and support you afforded the staff and students of our great school.
Columba staff did an amazing job working with your children last term ensuring continuity and assurance to our learning environment. I am also very grateful to the patience and understanding all the teachers and community have had toward our building project over the last two terms. This includes school puckup and very muddy carparks!
I am very glad to announce that our refurbished Learning Centre will be open for learning on Monday 18th July. We will be having an assembly next week so that families can experience the wonderful new learning environment we are are very blessed to be able to provide for our students in grades 1 and 2.
SORTING OUR SCREEN TIME IN OUR HOMES
PARENT WEBINAR SESSIONS
This week and next, our families and students will be once again working with Inform and Empower. They are our partners in supporting us to help educate ALL of our students on how they can stay safe in an online environment. All classes have learning sessions with Marty from Inform and Empower next week.
On Wednesday 13th July, many families also joined us for an online webinar with Inform and Empower. This Webinar focused on SCREEN TIME and how we as parents can manage our children's screen time. While many attended, 'thank you for this', I do know that life is very busy during the week, so I have worked to get the recording of the webinar for all families so that they can watch it in their own time. I do implore all parents to make the effort to watch through this 45min Webinar as it gives very 'real' strategies on how to ensure screen time is managed in our homes.
Please see the Webinar replay below.
I also encourage all families to respond to our PULSE survey which will be distributed next week. Each term we like to get the PULSE of the commujnity to ensure we stay on the right track, for not just our students and staff, but our many wonderful and supportive families. This survey will be distrubted in our next newlsetter and through an SZAPP alert.
Again I look forward to another wonderful term at Columba.
Take care
Andrew Greco

More information about Engineers Without Borders
Our mission: to redefine the purpose and impact of engineering practice as a critical enabler of sustainable development.
Engineers understand that their profession can play a critical role in restoring dignity for people and the regeneration of our planet. As the profession that contributes
significantly to designing the future that we will pass on to future generations, it is critical that this understanding results in meaningful, measurable action.
Outside of the engineering sector, engineering is not well understood and is rightly perceived as a male dominated industry, working in sectors that are contributing significantly to some of our biggest global challenges, socially and environmentally.
As it is not well understood, it can be inaccessible to other disciplines that need to work together with engineers to tackle some of the biggest global challenges facing our society and environment.
It is possible to engineer differently, to practice with a technical skill set and an adaptive mindset that strives to be part of multidisciplinary teams. The competencies that engineers need now to address inequality and environmental breakdown can become the personality of the sector, and can result in a perception shift so that the profession is understood as one that brings creativity and big picture thinking to our most complex challenges.
EWB is educating future engineers so they know that this is possible, and they are encouraged to join the profession for the benefit of people and the planet. We are educating current engineers so that they develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to engineer sustainably.
EWB is engineering solutions to address real world issues, alongside the people who are most impacted by these issues, and we practice, track and measure to prove our methods and feed learning back into the sector.
We work with our extended network internationally and in Australia, with industry, with governments, with the academic sector, with other for-purpose organisations and with our community of EWB chapters, alumni and volunteers to share learning, to influence, and to drive our belief that the practice of conscious engineering, is possible today, and everyday.

My name is Addy and I am a student attending Columba Catholic Primary School.
I'm on a mission to save the world from blood cancer, and I need YOUR HELP!
I'm sacrificing my locks to help Aussie families facing blood cancer.
Will you step up and donate to me as I take on World's Greatest Shave?
Your donation will provide families facing blood cancer with the special care they need to make it through every scary, uncertain moment that follows a
diagnosis.
It will also help brilliant research scientists continue their search for better ways to diagnose and treat blood cancer more effectively.
Every day over 50 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer.
I'm on a mission to change that.
