Columba acknowledges the Bunurong’s continuing relationship to the land and waterways and respects that their connection and spiritual identity are maintained through ancient ceremonies, songlines, dance, art, and living culture.
We pay tribute to the invaluable contributions of the Bunurong and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Elders who have guided and continue to guide our work.

Our Commitment to Child Safety
At Columba the safety and well-being of ALL our students is our top priority. We are committed to fostering a positive school environment where children feel secure, respected, and empowered. As part of this commitment, we uphold the 11 Child Safe Standards, a national framework that guides our approach to child safety. These standards cover crucial areas such as:
- Creating and maintaining a child safe culture
- Educating children and young people about safety
- Identifying and responding to risks
- Embedding reporting and investigation processes
- Working collaboratively with families and communities
I do ask that parents continue to be supportive of all that we put in place for all of our students in keeping ALL of them safe. Being we a Catholic school open to all Catholic and Non-Catholic families in Buynip, we are reuired to provide a education to anyone who chooses us.
We are not a private school.
As a Catholic school, we believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every human being. We are committed to fostering a community where all members feel welcomed, valued, and supported. Inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, we do our very best to create a safe and inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of their background, beliefs, or abilities, can thrive. As Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" (Matthew 19:14). We believe that every child is a precious gift from God, and we are dedicated to nurturing their growth and development in a loving and supportive atmosphere.
New Resource: Columba Safe Place
We are excited to announce the launch of our new Child Safe web page, aptly named "Columba Safe Place."
Accessible at
- Find valuable resources on topics such as bullying, cyber safety, and emotional well-being.
- Submit a request for help on-line, where a trusted adult will respond promptly.
- Report any situation they feel is unsafe through a secure platform.
- view our Gallery of student learning about child-safety and well-being.
Working Together for a Safe and Supportive Community
"Columba Safe Place" is an additional tool we've implemented to ensure our students have multiple avenues for seeking help and reporting any concerns. However, open communication between families and school staff remains vital. We encourage you to discuss "Columba Safe Place" with your children and remain open to their questions and concerns.
We are committed to building a strong partnership with you, our valued families, to ensure Columba is a place where every student feels safe, happy, and empowered to learn and grow.
Have a wonderful weekend

Primary School Nursing Program
Free resource to Prep Families
The Department of Education and Training (DET)Primary School Nursing Program offers a free health assessment to children in their first year of primary school. The aim of the program is to promote child health and well-being and to assist in the early identification of children with potential health related learning difficulties.
The Primary School Nursing Program is a service provided by registered nurses that have expertise in child health and development and understand the needs and concerns of families and school communities. The program provides parents/carers, teachers and nurses an opportunity to work together for the health and well-being of children and their educational progress.
In order for your child to participate, a ‘School Entrant Health Questionnaire’ must be completed, signed and returned to school (sent home to parents in Term 2). This will allow the school nurse to have an understanding of any concerns you may have about your child’s health. The school will ensure your information is stored securely until required by the school nurse.
If the nurse has concerns about your child’s health after assessing your child, the nurse will contact you. The nurse may suggest referring your child to be assessed or treated by another health professional or agency. A report will be sent to you, giving the outcome of your child’s assessment. Only with your permission, and if appropriate the assessment results may be provided to your child’s teacher. The health assessment is not intended to replace your normal source of health care.
