Dear Families,
It is with great joy that I can announce a further 3 staff who will joining the Columba team in 2024.
We have three new Learning Support Officers (LSO) joining our student support team, all of who very much fit the needs of our school.
Naomi Nelson will be with us 3 days a week. Naomi has had experience working as an LSO at St. Agatha's Primary School in Cranbourne. Naomi lives locally and cannot wait to start helping our teachers in the classroom.
Lachlan Nelson has also had experience working as an LSO at St. Agatha's in Cranbourne. Lachlan started as a chippy and found a passion for education. Lachlan has been an LSO for 12 months and will be with us four days a week in 2024.
Liam Marson will join the team for one day a week next year. Liam was an ex student at Columba and is also local. Liam currently is studying to be a teacher and also coaches tennis! He will also be a tremendous asset to our teaching and learning team for 2024.
I am sure that the entire Bunyip community will welcome these new people with open arms.
Student Grade Allocations 2024
The student grades have been finalised for 2024. Please know that much time and consideration goes into selecting these classes and I ask that all parents please trust that we have placed your child in the best possible learning environment for them.
All students will be told their new class on Monday 11th December.
As mentioned, grouping students into classes is an extremely complex and time-consuming process. We base our decisions on a number of key factors such as:
  • Current educational philosophies of the school and education
  • Social, emotional and academic needs of each child
  • A balance of social, emotional and academics in each grade cohort.

Each year teachers have conversations with children asking them about students who have a positive impact on their learning. We do not group our children by asking them to name their best friend/s as best friends does not always equate to best learning.

It is important that there is a collective understanding by both parents and children that being in the same class with their ‘best friends’ or social acquaintances outside of school is never a given.

Teachers always use their professional judgement on what they see each day within the cohort and, more importantly, the positive or negative impacts that friendships can have on an individual students learning.

As we approach the festive season, I am again thrilled to share a heartwarming opportunity for our school community to make a difference. This year, we are participating in the "St. Vincent de Paul Christmas in a Shoebox" campaign again, aiming to bring joy to those less fortunate.

I kindly ask you to consider donating generously to this meaningful cause. Your support will not only brighten someone's holiday but also teach our students the importance of compassion and giving.

As part of our Catholic Social Teaching, we encourage all students to care for everyone and support those who may need help in any way.

I am sure the Columba Community will once again come together to make this holiday season a truly special and impactful one for those in need.

Take Care
