A Window Into Learning At Columba
On Friday the 1st of December, students in grades P-4 attended a Responsible Pet Ownership session with Ruth and her Border Collie Azura. Students learned how to ask an owner if they can pet their dog, how to approach a dog, introduce themselves, and responsibly meet a dog.
The Yarning Circle has been positively received and enjoyed by students since it has been open during recess and lunch times.
On Friday the 17th of November our school counselor Paula, introduced us to Father Jason. Paula and Fr. Jason have a friendship that goes back several years.
Paula writes, "I started a charity called GUARDIAN ANGELS OF KENYA to support a school in Meru, Kenya. Fr Jason is the parish priest and is a member of Rotary, which is how I met him. We have supported his school - Christ the King - for the last few years. All money raised goes directly to financially supporting the students, the teachers, and the families. Projects like water tanks, building new classrooms, supplying computers, vegetable gardens, school bus maintenance, repairs and gas, teacher's wages, and purchasing livestock are a few of the things that we've been involved with."
Staff have supported Paula's charity by making a money donation for wearing jeans on the last Friday of each month. Students got to meet Fr. Jason in person during his recent visit to Australia, to hear about life in his community and the things he is achieving. Thank you, Paula, for inviting Father and giving us this opportunity to connect.

On Wednesday the 13th of December, the school travelled on buses to St Joseph's church Iona for the last Mass together for the year. Grade 1/2GC performed a wonderful prayer during the last song. The school also prayed for our leaving Grade Sixes.

On Wednesday, the grade six boys cooked a banquet lunch for staff as part of their Hands On Learning Program this term. There was a fiesta of food laid on and the boys provided impeccable service and entertainment as staff wandered into the pop-up restaurant. The lunch was very much appreciated as the busy term drew to an end. Many thanks to the grade six boys for the delicious food and their efforts in making our lunchtime memorable. Thank you also to Paula Pearce, Christine Porter, and Christine McLean for supporting the boys.
