Columba Day 2024
On Friday the 7th of June we will celebrate the Feast of St Columba with 'Columba Day'.
During the morning block the juniors will have activities across the classes. The middle and senior students will present the annual 'Columba Let Your Light Shine Talent Show', in the Multi-purpose Room. Families are welcome to attend!
In the middle block the school will travel to Iona to celebrate Mass at St Joseph's. Mass begins at 12 PM midday and families, friends, and parishioners are welcome to join us there.
When we return students will be offered a sausage in bread and a fruit box. Students are also encouraged to bring their snacks and water bottles.
The day will conclude with a whole school tree planting. Native plants have been generously donated by Greenhills Wholesale Nursery in Tynong and sponsored by Bunnings Warehouse in Pakenham.
This day will be a wonderful celebration of our namesake, St Columba, and of our school.
Do you know who St Columba is?
Columba or Colmcille was an Irish abbot and missionary evangelist credited with spreading Christianity in what is today Scotland at the start of the Hiberno-Scottish mission. He founded the important abbey on Iona, which became a dominant religious and political institution in the region for centuries. He died on 9 June 597 AD (age 75 years).
