We pay tribute to the invaluable contributions of the Bunurong and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Elders who have guided and continue to guide our work.
Principal Message 28th June 2024
As the much-awaited holiday break approaches, I wanted to take a moment to send you a special message to begin your holidays. Every ten weeks (this time it was 11), we are blessed to be able to bid farewell to school routines and embrace the magic of the holidays. I hope this message finds you bubbling with anticipation for the adventures and relaxation that lie ahead, parents included!
First and foremost, I want to express my appreciation for all your hard work throughout the semester. Your enthusiasm for learning has made our school community shine brightly. Your accomplishments, big and small, have brought great joy to many and continue to inspire us all. Most importantly, I am proud at how we have grown together as a community of learners. All of you have had to deal with challenges in your classrooms, and all of you have risen to those challenges in your own way. Whether it is showing empathy for others, a smile for a friend, or lending a helping hand to a peer who is not coping with the rigours of school, patience when your normal teacher is away, or showing up even though you didn't want to. It all matters!
Now, as the school doors temporarily close, it's time for you to unwind, recharge, and spend magical moments with your loved ones. This break is a time to embrace the spirit of togetherness and create lasting memories. So be kind to your siblings and look after mum, dad, grandma or whoever is taking care of you through the 2 weeks at home.
During your holiday break, I encourage you to take a step back from your daily routines and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. This break provides an opportunity for reflection and gratitude. Take a moment to appreciate the little things in life and acknowledge the journey you've been on so far this year.
As you embark on this holiday break, please remember to stay safe and take care of yourselves and those around you. We eagerly look forward to your return after the break, as we continue our educational journey together. Rest assured, we have exciting experiences ready for Semester 2. So, make the most of this break, recharge your batteries, and return with renewed vigour and enthusiasm.
Happy June/July holidays, Columba Kids!
Take care

PULSE SURVEY - Parent Survey to HELP our school
Each term we send out a parent survey which helps us get 'the pulse' of how our parent community. Below is a link to the survey. The surveys will always be brief and will support us in creating the best possible learning environment for your children.
This survey is CONFIDENTIAL and no names or email addresses will be collected unless you provide them for us. The school will not contact you personally to discuss your responses.
This is your best opportunity to let us know how you are feeling, and your best opportunity to let us know what we are doing well and what you know we could do better.

What is World Refugee Day?
World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on 20 June and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.
Why is World Refugee Day important?
World Refugee Day shines a light on the rights, needs and dreams of refugees, helping to mobilize political will and resources so refugees can not only survive but thrive. While it is important to protect and improve the lives of refugees every single day, international days like World Refugee Day help to focus global attention on the plight of those fleeing conflict or persecution. Many activities held on World Refugee Day create opportunities to support refugees.
When is World Refugee Day and when did it start?
World Refugee Day falls each year on 20 June and is dedicated to refugees around the globe. World Refugee Day was held globally for the first time on 20 June 2001 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. It was originally known as Africa Refugee Day, before the United Nations General Assembly officially designated it as an international day in December 2000.
What happens on World Refugee Day?
Each year, World Refugee Day is marked by a variety of events in many countries around the globe in support of refugees. These activities are led by or involve refugees themselves, government officials, host communities, companies, celebrities, school children and the general public, among others.
Assembly begins at 2:40 PM
Parents & families welcome!
We are looking into scheduling whole school assemblies again in Term 3.

School Concert News
It is time to start thinking about costume items that will need to be supplied for the school concert. These items are needed by the end of August.
We are very excited to share that our school concert will be next term, on Tuesday 17th September. The students have begun practising in class for this very important event. We want to give families as much notice as possible, so everyone has time to get organized.
The name of the concert is ‘The Antiques Roadshow’ and will see each class perform to music from different decades. Some costume items will be supplied by school and some we ask families to supply. Below is a list of what families are asked to supply.
If you need any help or have any questions please reach out klucas@bunyip.catholic.edu.au
